Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) Data and Shapefiles

Good afternoon - I wanted to alert you that EPA has released the preliminary 2016 TRI data and that the final version will be available in October, 2017. Check here for more information. In the past I have created shapefiles from this data, the latest being the TRI shapefiles located here.

If there is sufficient interest, I plan to create new shapefiles of the final version of the 2016 TRI data in October, 2017. My question to you all, would you be interested in these shapefiles?

Also, I have TRI data from the beginning of the program in 1987. I have the ability to create shapefiles of any year's data. If you are interested in custom TRI based shapefiles based on earlier years and/or different fields, please let me know.

Here's one interesting use of the data. My son and I created ToxicRisk.com several years ago. It employs 2013 TRI data with proximity to schools. Of course, nearly any theme can be added like playground, hospitals, etc. If you are interested in a project like this for your locale, please let me know as well.

Enhanced Shuttle Global Land Elevation Data Available

High-resolution topographic data generated from NASA's Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) in 2000, previously only available for the United States, will be released globally over the next year, the White House announced today. The announcement was made at the United Nations Heads of State Climate Summit in New York.

This initial public release of topographic data for Africa will help empower local authorities to better plan for the impacts of severe environmental changes such as drought, glacial retreat, inland flooding, landslides and coastal storm surges. Datasets covering the remaining continents will be made available within one year, with the next release of data focusing on Latin America and the Caribbean.

Open Source Climate Maps Using IPCC Data

Very nice application by Bart Römgens allowing one to visualize on maps a host of climate related variables. The maps can be animated as well to view changes over time. Visit Climatemaps.

New Los Angeles Metro Website/Trip Planner

The Los Angeles Metro opened up a new beta version of its website for public review. The map seems extremely useful and does not require a lot of drill-down to get to what you want to find out. Check it out at: beta.metro.net.
