GMT is an open source collection of 60 tools for manipulating geographic and Cartesian data sets (including filtering, trend fitting, gridding, projecting, etc.) and producing Encapsulated PostScript File (EPS) illustrations ranging from simple x-y plots via contour maps to artificially illuminated surfaces and 3-D perspective views. GMT supports ~30 map projections and transformations and comes with support data such as GSHHS coastlines, rivers, and political boundaries. GMT is developed and maintained by Paul Wessel and Walter H. F. Smith with help from a global set of volunteers, and is supported by the National Science Foundation. It is released under the GNU General Public License.

GpsDrive s a car (bike, ship, plane) navigation system. GpsDrive displays your position provided from your GPS receiver on a zoomable map. The maps are autoselected for best resolution depending of your position and can be downloaded from the Internet. Speech output is supported if the "festival" software is running. All GPS receivers supported by gpsd should be usable.
GpsDrive is written in C with use of the GTK+ toolkit under the GPL license, and runs with Linux, Mac OSX, and FreeBSD.

Grass Geographic Information System - commonly referred to as GRASS, this is free Geographic Information System (GIS) software used for geospatial data management and analysis, image processing, graphics/maps production, spatial modeling, and visualization. GRASS is currently used in academic and commercial settings around the world, as well as by many governmental agencies and environmental consulting companies. GRASS is an official project of the Open Source Geospatial Foundation.

gvSIG is a free open-source tool oriented to manage geographic information. It is characterized by a user-friendly interface, with a quick access to the most usual raster and vector formats. In the same view it includes local as well as remote data through a WMS, WCS or WFS source.

iGMT: Interactive Mapping of Geoscientific Datasets - This program is intended to make working with the Generic Mapping Tools (GMT) easier. iGMT provides a graphical user interface for GMT and is written in the Tcl/Tk computer language. Besides supplying a user friendly way of handling GMT, iGMT comes with built-in support for many different geoscientific data sets, such as topography, gravity, seafloor age, hypocenter catalogs, plate boundary files, hotspot lists, CMT solutions etc.

Geodetic, Geospatial Exploter, Geotrans, Geometry Engine, GEOS, GDAL Free & Open Source GIS Download

Part 3 of Free and Open Source GIS Software

Geodetic software developed by the National Geodetic Survey (NCS). Free downloads - dozens of programs.

GeoServer - GeoServer is an Open Source server that connects your information to the Geospatial Web. You can publish and edit data using open standards. Your information is made available in a large variety of formats as maps/images or actual geospatial data..

Geospatial Explorer has been written to enable geologists, environmental scientists, and engineers to apply innovative science and technology to enhance and expedite the reduction of risk to human health and the environment. Geospatial Explorer permits the user to identify, understand, and solve complex environmental problems better, faster, and cheaper.

Geographic Translator (GEOTRANS) is an application program which allows users to easily convert geographic coordinates among a wide variety of coordinate systems, map projections, and datums. GEOTRANS runs in both Microsoft Windows (95/98/NT) and UNIX Motif environments.

geos (Geometry Engine Open Source (GEOS)) is a C++ port of the Java Topology Suite (JTS). As such, it aims to contain the complete functionality of JTS in C++. This includes all the OpenGIS "Simple Features for SQL" spatial predicate functions and spatial operators, as well as specific JTS topology functions such as IsValid().

Geospatial Data Abstraction Library (GDAL) - GDAL is a translator library for raster geospatial data formats. As a library, it presents a single abstract data model to the calling application for all supported formats.

Good Luck

Erdas Titan 3d Virtual Globe, FlowMap, Gen2shp, Geocoding, Generic Mapping Tools ...

Free & Open Source GIS Software Downloads Part 4

edbs2wkt - Converting the GIS-Format EDBS to Spatial-Database, PostGIS and other using the Well Known Text-Interface. EDBS is a German Fileformat from ALK (Automatisierte Liegenschaftskarte).

Erdas Titan 3D Visualization Client - In ERDAS TITAN Client 2010, users may connect to ERDAS APOLLO catalogs via the TITAN Viewer to execute geoprocesses and visualize results in a 3D virtual globe. Descriptive metadata search results from ERDAS APOLLO catalogs are now also available in an easy-to-read display pane. Search and discovery of data in an APOLLO catalog is much faster, due to integration of REST/JSON API. Performance in the ERDAS TITAN Client Viewer has also been greatly optimized by new algorithms, providing seamless zoom in/out of raster overlays, more memory efficiency (2-3x), multiple times faster loading KML and shapefiles, improvements to loading terrain and basemaps, and navigation enhancements.

Flowmap is a software package dedicated to analyzing and displaying interaction or flow data. This type of data is special in the sense that there are two different
geographic locations connected to each data item: An origin location where the flow starts and an destination location where the flow ends. The flow data itself can be people (e.g. commuters, shoppers, hospital visitors), goods, usage of agricultural services or telecommunication and so on.

gen2shp is a simple C-Progam which can read the format required by the ESRI ArcInfo generate command.

Gen2shp - Implemented in Avenue, can be directly incorporated into AV projects. Converts 2D or 3D ASCII data from one or more generate format text files to one or more (multi-part) shapefiles. Available as Extension or just Scripts.

Generic Mapping Tools (GMT) is a collection of about 60 UNIX tools that allow users to manipulate (x,y) and (x,y,z) data sets (including filtering, trend fitting, gridding, projecting, etc.) and produce Encapsulated PostScript File (EPS) illustrations ranging from simple x-y plots through contour maps to artificially illuminated surfaces and 3-D perspective views in black and white, gray tone, hachure patterns, and 24-bit color. GMT supports 30 common map projections plus linear, log and power scaling, and comes with support data such as coastlines, rivers, and political boundaries.

Geocoding - Map Channels offers free single address and batch geocoding.

More to come! Enjoy.
